NAHAN



Location: Nahan-Renuka-Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, India

Himachal Pradesh is not only the land of snow and high mountains but also lower hills known as Shiwalik where tourist can spend their vacations, see the lakes, visit wild life parks, sanctuaries and fossil parks. One such area is Siramaur (one of the 12 districts of HP) which is famous for its three tourist places - Nahan, Renka and Paonta Sahib.

Nahan - Nahans serves as a good base for visiting Renuka, Paonta Sahib, Suketi Fossil Park, lake. Nahan is a picturesque neat and clean dust free town. At 21 kms from Nahan, there is a fossil park called the Suketi Fossil Park. It displays lifesize fiberglass model of pre historic animals whose fossil,skeleton were unearthed here. The "Trilokpur Temple" which is lcated 23 kms from Nahan was built in 1573 and has great religious importance. At "Dhaula Kuan" 20 kms from Nahan on the way to Paonta Sahib, you will get to see sprawling orchards consisting of citrus plants and mangoes and fruit canning factory of various fruit juices,jams and pickles.
The town's special attractions include its three lovely and lonely walks, known as the Villa Round, he Military Round and the Hospital Round, which give the tourists a very pleasant view of the surrounding areas. Dont miss to visit Ranital Bagh in Nahan - it is a beautiful garden.

Paonta Sahib - The second in triangle is Paonta Sahib, a city sacred to the memory of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs. The Gurudwara, old temples with legends and stories attached to it are some of the most visited places in this town.

Renuka - The most important place of tourist interest in Sirmaur and the third point of this triangle is the sacred and picturesque lake of Renuka, 45 kms. from Nahan. It is one of the most beautiful lakes in Himachal Pradesh having crystal clear water. It is shaped like a sleeping women. Renuka was killed by her own son, the legendary Parsu Ram, in obedience to the orders of his father-the sage Jamadagni. After the deed was done, lake Renuka was formed surrounded by stepped fields of golden corn. Today the myth is brought to the fore when, each year in November, a fair is held to celebrate the immortality of Renuka and her son. The key-notes of the colourful fair are the festivity and devotional exuberance.

Access:

The nearest airport is Chandigarh, with Dehradun as an option. Drive from Chandigarh or Dehradun to Nahan.

Rail:The nearest railway stations are Ambala, Chandigarh and Kalka, which are connected by a regular bus service. Yamunanagar is another rail station close to the town

Road:Nahan is approachable from many directions by road: via Dehra Dun through Paonta Sahib; via Panchkula-Naraingarh-Kala Amb from Chandigarh, via Yamunanagar -Hathanikund from Haryana and via Solan- Kumarhatti from Shimla. There are regular bus services linking Nahan to the other towns like Chandigarh, Dehradun, Delhi and Haridwar. The town is 260 km from Delhi. (06 hrs)
